Korol i Schut ( Russian Король и Шут , wiss. Transliteration Korol 'i šut , translated “King and Fool”) was a Russian punk rock band, which mostly finds the subject for their works in fairy tales .

The group was formed in 1988 from a school band in Leningrad , whose founding members Mikhail Gorschok Gorschenjow ( Михаил Горшок Горшенёв ), Alexander Balu Balunow ( Александр Балу Балунов ) and Alexander poruchik Schtschigoljew ( Александр Поручик Щиголев ) were. In 1990 Andrei Knjas Knjasew ( Андрей Князь Князев ) joined the band. In 1997 Jakow Zwirkunow ( Яков Цвиркунов ) joined as guitarist . The name of the band, which means something like king and fool , was created in 1992. Before that, the band was called Kontora ( Контора ).
It was one of the first bands in Russia to use fairy tale characters such as trolls, dwarfs and vampires in their song lyrics.
The band's first recordings were made in 1991/92 in a semi-professional studio. At the same time the first radio appearances and tours of the clubs of Saint Petersburg began. Since 1993 Korol 'i Schut has also performed in Moscow clubs.
A first album in a small edition was released in 1994: Bud 'kak doma putnik ( Будь как дома путник - Feel at home, wanderer ). Apparently this album was reissued in 2000.
The first official album with a higher edition was released in 1996 by Melodija under the title Kamnem po golowe ( Камнем по голове - With the stone on the head ). Since then several more albums have been released; In the summer of 1998 the band produced their first music video, Jeli mjaßo mushiki ( Ели мясо мужики - meat the men ate ).
In 2003 the band went on tour in Israel and the USA .
On the night of July 18-19, 2013, the front man of the music group, Mikhail Gorschok Gorschenjow, died in his home in Saint Petersburg.
