The Welecja coat of arms

The Korporacja Akademicka Welecja (Academic Association Welecja) is the third oldest Polish student association . It was founded on October 26, 1883 in Riga at the Technical University there as a split from a group of members of the Arkonia Association. The main goals of Welecja were to promote Polish patriotism, honor, integrity and reliability. The name was referring to the ethnicity of Wieleten selected.

Moscow

During the First World War , the headquarters of the connection was relocated to the Russian capital as part of the evacuation of the University of Riga to Moscow . In 1916, an offshoot of Welecja was established in Warsaw , which became Welecja's headquarters after the connection in Moscow was closed in 1918.

Warsaw

The association was now registered at the Warsaw University as well as at Politechnika and accepted students from these two institutions as members. In 1921 she joined the Association of Polish Student Associations (Polish: Związek Polskich Korporacji Akademickich). In 1928 they moved into a newly built fraternity house at 4 Chocimska Street . The Second World War severely restricted liaison activities. But there were events both in exile and in captivity. In the People's Republic of Poland , the Welecja - like all other connections - was not approved. Informal meetings of relatives took place nevertheless; In 1983, Warsaw and London celebrated the centenary of the association. Only in 2002 was official activity resumed with the adoption of four foxes ; the registration in the legal form of an association took place on March 29, 2003.

Since 2004 Welecja has published the magazine "Viribus Unitis Biuletyn Roczny Korporacji Akademickiej Welecja" ( ISSN  1733-3660 ). Since 1886 the old gentlemen of the union have been organized in the Association of Philistines of Welecja (Polish: Stowarzyszenie Filistrów Welecji). The band colors of the Welecja are green-silver-blue; the motto is “Viribus unitis - suum cuique”.
