Cosmic rise
The terms cosmic rise and cosmic set define in astronomy the simultaneous rise of a celestial object with the sunrise and the simultaneous setting with the sunset.
A distinction must also be made between the true cosmic rising and the apparent cosmic rising and the true cosmic setting and the apparent cosmic setting :
- Because of the refraction , the apparent cosmic rise of a star occurs before the true cosmic rise on the horizon .
- On the other hand, the apparent cosmic downfall takes place after the true cosmic downfall.
Due to the brightness of the sun , cosmic rises and sets are normally not observable.
