Alexandra von Lieven

Alexandra von Lieven (born October 19, 1974 in Saarbrücken ) is a German Egyptologist . She is a member of Lieven's family .

Life

Von Lieven studied Egyptology and Comparative Religious Studies from 1994 to 1997 at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, as well as some semesters of Near Eastern Archeology , Classical Archeology and Indology . In November 1998 she completed her master's degree with an examination of the ceiling and architrave inscriptions of the Roman temple of Esna . In 2002, she did her doctorate with her work Das so-called Nutbuch , which she published in 2007 with the title Ground plan of the course of the stars . This is a significantly expanded new edition compared to the previous standard work Egyptian Astronomical Texts 1, which appeared in 1960 . In addition to the already known Papyri Carlsberg 1 and 1a were four other Tebtunis - Papyri in this two-volume monograph will be published for the first time. In 2008 von Lieven completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin with the text “Cult of the Holy and Deification in Ancient Egypt ”.

From 2002 to 2008 she worked as a research assistant at the Egyptological seminar at the Free University of Berlin . From 2003 to 2005 she was also involved in the preparation of the exhibition “Egypt and the Greco-Roman World” from November 25, 2005 to February 26, 2006 in the Liebieghaus , Frankfurt am Main . In the winter semester of 2008/09 she was a TEA visiting professor at the Egyptological Institute of the University of Tübingen. From April 1, 2009 to January 31, 2016, she was a Heisenberg fellow of the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the Egyptological Seminar of the Free University of Berlin. The Heisenberg scholarship interrupted her for a ten-month research fellowship at the Lichtenberg-Kolleg of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in 2010/11, as well as for professorships at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU Münster) in the winter semester 2014/15 and at the University of Cologne in the summer semester 2015. This was followed by substitute professorships at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in the summer semester 2016, at the Free University Berlin in the winter semester 2016/17 and at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main (professorship for the history of science in the premodern world) in the summer semester 2017 In November 2016, she was awarded the title of adjunct professor at the Free University of Berlin . In 2017/18 she was a research assistant on the DFG project "Database and Dictionary of Greek Loanwords in Coptic" (DDGLC) at the Free University of Berlin with her own sub-project "Greek loanwords in hieroglyphic and late hieratic texts". This was followed by another substitute professor at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster in the 2018/19 winter semester. In November 2018 von Lieven completed her habilitation at the University of Münster, where she was also awarded the title of adjunct professor in December 2018. Since September 2019 she has been the project manager of the DFG project "Norm-transgressive behavior in the gods of ancient Egypt" at the University of Münster.

In 2004 Lieven became the expert reviewer for Egyptology for the conference files of the International Study Group on Music Archeology (ISGMA). She is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the series “Science, Technology and Medicine in Ancient Civilizations” (STMAC) at de Gruyter, Berlin and “Mundus Orientis” (MO) at Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, Göttingen. Since 2013 she has been Project Head for Sources in Egyptian in the project EKOH — Early Knowledge of the Heavens: A Digital Library for Mediterranean, Near Eastern, and South Asian Contexts at the Institute for Research in Classical Philosophy and Science IRCPS, Princeton. Also in 2013, Lieven was included in the database of excellent women scientists in Europe at the suggestion of the German Research Foundation.

In her publications, von Lieven mainly deals with the religion , the sciences and the cultural history of ancient Egypt. She has published two monographs, numerous specialist articles, entries in various lexicons and handbooks, and reviews on these subject areas .

Von Lieven is a member of the International Study Group on Music Archeology (ISGMA), the International Association of Egyptologists (IAE) and the German University Association (DHV).
