The Kotaneelee River is a left tributary of the Liard River in Canada's Northwest Territories .

The Kotaneelee River rises on the border with the Yukon Territory in the La Biche Range , a ridge of the Logan Mountains . From there the river flows through a valley in a southerly direction, separating the La Biche Range in the west from the Kotaneelee Range in the east. After about 35 km the Kotanelee River turns to the east and breaks through the mountain range of the Kotaneelee Range. He reaches another valley facing south. It takes up the Chinkeh Creek coming from the north and now flows south again. The ridge of the Liard Range flanks the valley to the east. After about 40 km the river breaks through the southwestern extension of the Liard Range in a southeast direction and reaches the Liard River 13 km southwest of Fort Liard . The Kotaneelee River is approximately 130 km in length.
