The Koukdjuak ( English Koukdjuak River , French Rivière Koukdjuak ) is a river on Baffin Island in the Canadian territory of Nunavut .

It forms the drain of Nettilling Lake and pours into Foxe Basin . The Great Plain of Koukdjuak in the western part of Baffin Island along the Foxe Basin was named after him.

The first non- Inuit to travel the river was the German ornithologist Bernhard Hantzsch (1875–1911). The first to study it in detail was the Canadian arctic explorer and ornithologist Joseph Dewey Soper (1893-1982). The northern border of the Dewey Soper Migratory Bird Sanctuary runs along the Koukdjuak. The river is important for the barren ground caribou , which have to cross it during their migration. Arctic char are caught in the river .
