Kow Nkensen Arkaah (born July 14, 1927 in Senya Breku , Gold Coast (now Ghana ), † April 25, 2001 in Atlanta , Georgia , USA ) was one of the leading politicians in Ghana. He was the first vice president of the Fourth Republic of Ghana under President Jerry Rawlings .
education
Arkaah first attended the Mfantsipim School between 1941 and 1946 and later the Achimota College , the predecessor institute of the University of Ghana . He then moved to Tufts College in the USA to study economics to get his first degree. Between 1952 and 1954 he was a student in business administration ( Business Administration ) at Harvard University and graduated with a master's degree.
Career

After returning to Ghana, he also worked for the oil industry as a marketing assistant for Mobil Oil Ghana Limited. Arkaah developed further activities as chairman of the National Trade Association of Ghana ( Ghana National Trading Corporation , GNTC).
Arkaah became chairman of the National Convention Party (NCP) ahead of the 1992 general election . With the National Democratic Congress of Jerry Rawlings and the party Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere (EGLE), the NCP formed an electoral association in support of Rawlings, who had previously ruled the country as a military dictator. Rawlings won the elections and, following pre-election agreements, Arkaah became Rawlings' vice president for the first four-year term. The collaboration between Arkaah and Rawling often turned out to be difficult. The climax of the clashes between the two politicians was a cabinet meeting.

The seriously injured Arkaah was admitted to the military hospital at Military Base 37 in Accra. The other party involved in the accident fled from the scene of the accident unrecognized.
