Koyra Senni (also East Songhay , Koyraboro Senni or Koroboro Senni ) is a southern Songhai language spoken by around 400,000 people in Mali - especially in Gao - (as of 2007, and the trend is rising) .
Literally translated, "koyra-boro senn-i" means "language of the city dwellers" in contrast to nomads (such as the Tuareg ) or other non-settled ethnic groups.
Koyra Senni is a supra-regional language that has spread to the west to the Fulbe on the Malian - Nigerien border and to the east to the Bozo . East of Timbuktu , Koyra Senni is relatively abruptly replaced by Koyra Chiini (or West Songhay ).
