Jeffrey Heath

Jeffrey Heath (* 1949 ) is an American professor of historical linguistics , morphology , Arabic and linguistic anthropology at the University of Michigan . He is best known for his historical-linguistic work and his extensive field research on Australian languages ​​( 1970s ), Maghrebian - Arabic languages ​​( 1980s ) and - since the 1990s - the languages ​​of Mali , especially the Songhai languages .

Life

Heath studied at Harvard ( BA 1971) and at the University of Chicago ( MA 1973, Ph.D. 1976).

From 1973 to 1977 he was a Research Fellow at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies , from 1977 to 1985 Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of Linguistics at Harvard. In 1987 he moved to the University of Michigan, where he has been a full professor since 1989 .
