Economy and Importance
Krabi is one of the most attractive travel destinations in southern Thailand. The Andaman Sea to the west, with its countless natural attractions, is impressive. These include the white sandy beaches, steeply rising rocks, fascinating coral reefs, numerous larger and smaller islands and forests with caves and waterfalls.
The tourist development of the area is in full swing. The jagged limestone cliffs attract climbers from all over the world, some of them can only be climbed with equipment. A local industry is developing for this purpose.
traffic
The provincial capital Krabi is (after Hat Yai ) the hub of tourism in southern Thailand.
Ferries
A new ferry port, similar to an airport hall, went into operation in the west of the city in 2003. From there the ferries run daily to the Phi Phi Islands (travel time about one hour), to Ko Lanta (travel time about two hours) and to Ko Phuket (travel time about two and a half hours).
Airport
The Krabi Airport (KBV) is about eight kilometers northeast of the city center. Air connections exist mainly to Bangkok. Since the expansion and official opening as an international airport in May 2006, international flights have also been offered to, among others, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore .
