Amphoe Mueang Krabi ( Thai : อำเภอ เมือง กระบี่ , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː mɯ̄aŋ kràʔbìː ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) of the Krabi Province . Krabi Province is located in the southern region of Thailand .

The capital of the district is also called Krabi .

location

Krabi is located on the west coast of Thailand to the Andaman Sea on a bay opposite the island of Phuket .

geography

The neighboring amphoe and areas are (clockwise from north): Ao Luek , Khao Phanom and Nuea Khlong . In the south and in the west the district borders on the bay of Phang Nga.

The Phi Phi Archipelago and other smaller islands also belonged to Mueang Krabi County . The interesting Karst landscape of the coast has created numerous popular tourist destinations. The most well-known are:

  • Rai Leh (also: Raleigh ), consisting of East and West Beach (on the Rai Leh peninsula, only accessible by boat). The Rai Leh East Beach is overgrown with mangroves and is not suitable for swimming; the Rai Leh West Beach (boat arrival here) is very nice. Location: about five kilometers southeast of the main beach of Ao Nang.
  • Phranang Beach is probably the most beautiful beach on the Rai Leh peninsula.
  • Ao Nang (Thai: อ่าว นาง - about Ladies Bay ), the main tourist beach and holiday resort with good infrastructure is located in this bay. With the ship traffic (longtail boats), which is also responsible for the increasing noise pollution, many small islands are reached, for example Rai Leh, Ko Hong, Ko Poda, Ko Si Boya.   • Noppharat Thara Beach (Thai: หาด นพรัตน์ ธารา ), part of the National Park Hat Noppharat Thara - Mu Ko Phi Phi - not very suitable for swimming due to the pronounced ebb and flow of tides. Location: about one kilometer west of the Ao Nang Beach.

Local administration

Krabi ( เทศบาล เมือง กระบี่ ) is a city ( Thesaban Mueang ) in the district, it includes the entire Tambon Paknam and Krabi Yai.

There is also a small town ( Thesaban Tambon ) :

  • Krabi Noi ( เทศบาล ตำบล กระบี่ น้อย ) consists of the entire Tambon Krabi Noi.

There are also seven “tambon administrative organizations” (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ) for the tambon in the county that do not belong to any city.
