The BLCP (or Map Ta Phut ) power plant is a coal-fired power plant in the Map Ta Phut industrial area , Mueang Rayong County, Rayong Province , Thailand .

The installed capacity of the power plant is 1434 MW . It is owned by BLCP Power and operated by BLCP Power. BLCP Power is a 50:50 joint venture between Banpu Public Company Limited and Electricity Generating Public Company Limited . Construction of the power plant began in July 2002; the first block went into operation in October 2006.

Power plant units

The power plant consists of two blocks. The following table gives an overview:

block Max. Power (MW) Start of operation turbine generator Steam boiler
1 717 2006 MHI Melco MHI
2 717 2007 MHI Melco MHI

The nominal voltage of the generators is 19  kV . In the switchgear , the generator voltage is increased from 19 kV to 500 kV using power transformers.

Others

The power plant requires 3.64 million tons of hard coal per year . 662,000 t of coal can be stored on the power plant site; this can cover the requirement of 60 days. The hard coal is imported from Australia and Indonesia.

5.34 million m³ of seawater are required for cooling and flue gas desulphurisation every day .

The power plant serves to cover the base load . The electricity generated will be sold to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) for 25 years ; the selling price per kWh is 144 baht (5.7 US cents ). The cost for the construction of the power plant were estimated at 1.3 billion USD .
