The Barranco de Tirajana power plant ( Spanish Central térmica de Barranco de Tirajana ), also known as the Juan Grande power plant , is an oil and wind power plant near the village of Juan Grande in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana in the southeast of the island of Gran Canaria nearby the big tourist places. The owner and operator is Unión Eléctrica de Canarias (UNELCO), a subsidiary of ENDESA . The power plant has an installed capacity of 697 MW , making it the larger of the two thermal power plants in Gran Canaria (Barranco de Tirajana power plant and Jinámar power plant ). It has two oil-fired units with an output of 80 MW each and went into operation between 1995 and 1996. The boilers were supplied by Babcock & Wilcox . There are also several wind turbines on the site .
