The Jinámar power plant ( Spanish Central térmica de Jinámar ) is an oil power plant in the village of Jinámar in the northeast of the island of Gran Canaria near Las Palmas de Gran Canaria . It is located directly on the GC-1 motorway by the sea and has its own motorway connection. The owner and operator is Unión Eléctrica de Canarias (UNELCO), a subsidiary of ENDESA . There is a seawater desalination plant near the power plant. It has an installed capacity of 415.6  megawatts , which corresponds to around 40% of the conventionally generated electrical energy in Gran Canaria, and uses fossil fuels. Two diesel-fired turbines with an output of 25 MW each went into operation in 1992.

In 2009 it was announced that greenhouse gas emissions would be reduced by 52 percent by improving combustion technology in order to comply with Spanish limit values. The power plant received the ISO 14001 certificate after reducing its emissions of particulates, SO 2 and NO x thanks to improvements in the electrostatic precipitator and the use of magnesium oxide in the combustion process. By lowering the power plant's consumption, it was possible to reduce CO 2 emissions.

In May 2007 the operator installed a third machine transformer in the substation of the power plant , which regulates the connections between the two power plants in Jinámar and Barranco de Tirajana . The new transformer is ten meters long, seven meters wide, seven meters high and weighs 214 tons.
