The GC-1 , also known as Autopista del Sur de Gran Canaria , is a motorway on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria . It connects the city of Las Palmas in the north as a motor road (Autovia) to the international airport and then as a motorway (Autopista) with the tourist centers of Maspalomas , Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán in the south, and runs mainly on a length of 77.5 km the east and south coasts of the circular island. It is the fastest connection from north to south. Along with the GC-2 , which can be reached via the "Las Palmas bypass" ( GC-3 ), it is one of the main roads in Gran Canaria.

The 77.5 km long GC-1 is the second longest motorway in the Canaries . The speed limit on the GC-1 as an Autovia is 100 km / h and on the Autopista 120 km / h.

The first section between Las Palmas and Gando Airport was opened to traffic on February 3, 1975. The section between Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán was completed on March 25, 2013 . Almost 112 million euros were estimated for the 6.3 km long extension. It contains three bridges and four pairs of tunnels, as well as three new exits.
