The southern motorway TF-1 , also known as TF 1 or Autopista del Sur de Tenerife , is a motorway on the Spanish island of Tenerife . It connects the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the southern airport and the municipality of Santiago del Teide over a length of 103 km, touching 13 of the 31 municipalities of Tenerife. It is one of the main roads on the island , along with the TF-5 northern motorway .

It is the longest motorway in the Canary Islands , even before the Autopista del Sur de Gran Canaria . The last 18 km long section of the TF-1 to Santiago del Teide was completed in 2015. If the TF-5 were ever completely completed, a large motorway ring would be created around the whole island together with the TF-1.

history

The highway opened in the late 1970s when tourism increased. At first it was a pure city motorway within the capital, later it was extended via Güímar to Arona . At the end of the last millennium, the airport was connected and connected to Adeje . The construction of the TF-1 and the Reina Sofia airport pushed the development in the south of Tenerife enormously and made the development of many places on the southeast coast, such as Abades , possible in the first place.
