The FV-1 is a trunk road on the island of Fuerteventura . It begins in the north in the city of Corralejo and ends in the island's capital Puerto del Rosario .

The construction project

The FV-1, together with the FV-2, is part of the major construction project on the north-south motorway on Fuerteventura. The aim is to build a continuous four-lane connection between Fuerteventura's north with the city of Corralejo and Fuerteventura's south with the city of Morro Jable .

The FV-1 used to run through the " Parque Natural de Corralejo " nature reserve . In 2017, after three years of actual construction plus five years of construction delay, the four-lane bypass around the nature reserve was opened as the first section of the motorway in order to direct through traffic out of the nature reserve. In the nature reserve itself, the former main road was initially renamed FV-1A and later FV-104. However, the old road is now temporarily closed to traffic between the villages of Parque Holandes and Corralejo until October 2018, as the closure of the road through the nature reserve was actually a condition of the environmental report for the construction of the motorway. Since the municipalities now want to keep the street, appraisals are currently being drawn up to prevent it from being closed permanently.

Under construction

For the remaining five-kilometer section to the entrance to Corralejo, the second lane of the motorway will be built alongside the existing lane of the former FV-101 connection road. This section of the new FV-1 motorway is to be completed in 2018, so that the motorway from La Caldereta to Corralejo can then be used continuously. The project will cost more than 60 million euros in total. After completion of this construction phase, the FV-101 will end at the roundabout, where it meets the FV-109 and the motorway slip road to FV-1.

In the planning

A cycle path is also to be built parallel to the Caldereta – Corralejo motorway section. However, this is still in the environmental impact assessment.

The plan is to expand the road into four lanes to Puerto del Rosario (see later road). This project is expected to cost 89.1 million euros. There the road will connect to the existing Autopista FV-2 .
