The Autovía A-63 or Autovía Oviedo – La Espina is a partially completed motorway in Spain . It runs entirely in the province of Asturias and, when finished, connects the provincial capital Oviedo with the municipalities of Grado , Salas and La Espina to the west over a length of around 50 kilometers . An extension of 23 kilometers from La Espina to the north to the A-8 near the municipality of Canero is being planned.
In the final state, the motorway consists of two structurally separate directional lanes, each with two lanes and an additional hard shoulder. The connection points are free of height. The line of the motorway is very curvy due to the existing hilly landscape . There are also some tunnels and bridges along the way.
The motorway is being built to improve both the development of the Asturian hinterland and the accessibility of the provincial capital. So far, the route between the A-66 near Oviedo to Cornellana has been continuously accessible as an autovia. The section between Cornellana and Salas is under construction (as of April 2019). The route between Salas and La Espina will be run as national road 634 , as only one carriageway has been built so far. The construction of the second carriageway is in preparation (as of April 2019). [outdated]
