The Autopista C-16 (also known as the Autopista de Monserrat / Autovía Eje del Llobregat , or C-16 for short ) is a motorway in Catalonia . It is part of the E-9 .

According to the 2004 renumbering, the number 1 means that the motorway is heading south-north, and the number 6 means that it is the sixth-westernmost motorway. It starts in Barcelona , ends in Puigcerdà and is 130 kilometers long. The Barcelona – Manresa section, the first 56 kilometers of the Autopista, are toll roads. The section from Manresa to El Puig is designed as a motorway (Autovia). The first part (Autopista) opened in 1994, the second part (Autovia) was built from 1999 to 2009. Before the name change, the Ruby – Tarrasa to Manresa section was part of the A-18.

Since 2006 there have been plans to expand the motorway by several sections. Specifically, it is about the section between Sallent and Berga . The topography makes the expansion work almost impossible to find an optimal path that would not put additional strain on the communities.
