The construction project
The 2nd ring road is to relieve the Via de Cintura ( Autopista Ma-20 ). It was actually planned to expand Via Conectora to Ma-11 . Due to botched construction and high costs, it will initially only be expanded between the Ma-19 airport motorway and the Ma-13 in the direction of Alcudia .
On March 12, 2019, the second section was opened to traffic two years later than originally planned. In the area between the Autopista Ma-13 and the Ma-15 expressway, Via Conectora has now been expanded to consist of four lanes. Now, to close the gap, the last section between the Ma-15 and the airport motorway must be expanded with 2 × 2 lanes.
New plans also provide space to build a tram line next to the street that will connect the center of Palma with the airport .
