The Cercosa power plant ( Barragem de Cercosa in Portuguese ) is located in the central region of Portugal in the Viseu district . It dams the Alfusqueiro River , a left (southern) tributary of the Vouga , to a reservoir. The eponymous municipality of Cercosa is located approximately 700 m northwest of the power plant.
The Cercosa power plant went into operation in 1994. It is owned by the Soc. Expl.de Recursos Energéticos, Lda .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 15.7 m above the foundation level (13.7 m above the river bed). The top of the wall is at a height of 374.2 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 72 m.
The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 5.15 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 250 m³ / s via the flood discharge.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 371 m (maximum 373.75 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.02 km² and holds 0.06 million m³ of water - of which 0.02 million m³ can be used to generate electricity . The minimum storage target is 366.7 m.
power plant
With an installed capacity of 3,923 MW , the Cercosa power plant is one of the smallest hydropower plants in Portugal. The average annual production is 9.65 million kWh . A Francis turbine is installed.
