The power plant Gladstone ( English Gladstone Power Station ) is a coal power plant in Gladstone , Queensland , Australia . The power plant is owned by a joint venture between several companies and is operated by NRG Gladstone Operating Services .

With an installed capacity of 1.68 GW , Gladstone is the most powerful power plant in Queensland. It serves to cover the base load . The power plant requires around 4 million tons of hard coal per year, which is supplied from Queensland. Around 320 people are employed in Gladstone.

joint venture
The joint venture consists of the following companies: Pacific Aluminum , a subsidiary of Rio Tinto Ltd (42.125%), NRG Energy Inc (37.5%), SLMA GPS Pty Ltd (8.50%), Ryowa II GPS Pty Ltd ( 7.125%) and YKK GPS (Queensland) Pty Ltd (4.75%).
