Johann Baptist Weigl

Johann Baptist Weigl (born March 26, 1783 in Hahnbach ; † July 6, 1852 in Regensburg ) was a German clergyman , theologian , mathematician and composer .

Life

In 1790, Weigl became a choirboy in the convent . In 1794 he began his high school studies at the Amberg high school . At the end of his studies he entered the Benedictine order in the monasteryprüfunging before he came as a novice to the monastery Rott , where he was under the influence of Aegidius Jais . After secularization , he continued his studies at the Lyceum in Amberg. On May 31, 1806, he was ordained a priest in Regensburg . In the same year he returned to Amberg after working at the Regensburg Cathedral and the girls' school there. There he became a teacher. In 1809 he was promoted to professor of the second high school class and in 1813 he received the professorship of moral theology and church history at the local Lyceum.

Weigl was the October 20, 1817 to Professor of Canon Law and Church History at the Regensburg Lyceum appointed , which had at that time university status. In addition, he became rector of the Regensburg grammar school in 1821 . In 1824 he took over the rectorate of the lyceum, in 1826 the office of inspector of the boys' and music seminar at St. Paul. He held this until 1834. In 1832 he became a district scholarch and on March 22, 1834 Regensburg canon . He also held the office of official . He was also appointed to the episcopal clergy .

Weigl was a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences from 1850 . As early as 1849 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit by St. Michael .
