The Johnsonville power plant ( English Johnsonville Fossil Plant ) was a coal-fired power plant of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in New Johnsonville , Tennessee. It consisted of ten blocks with 42.8 MW each . The first block went online in 1951, the last in 1959.
The Johnsonville power plant was the TVA's oldest power plant. Units 5–10 were shut down in 2012 and shut down in 2015; the remaining units 1–4 followed on December 31, 2017. The power plant supplied process steam to the neighboring Chemours (formerly DuPont) titanium dioxide plant . The ashes were dumped on an island in the Tennessee River .
A new 87 MW combined cycle power plant was to be built at the same location by 2018, but in the end, turbine 20 of the Johnsonville gas power plant was retrofitted with a steam generator.
