The Peißenberg power plant is a power plant in the Upper Bavarian market Peißenberg in the Weilheim-Schongau district . It was formerly a coal-fired power station ; today it consists of two combined heat and power units . The owner and operator is Peissenberger Kraftwerks Gesellschaft mbH (PKG) , which is a joint subsidiary of E.ON Bayern AG and Lechwerke .

History and structure

coal-fired power station

The first power plant in Peißenberg to supply the Peißenberg mine was built in 1914/15. Between 1940 and 1956, five boilers and five turbines were installed in the power station. They converted pitch coal from the Upper Bavarian mining district into electricity .

In 1955, the power plant was connected to the Allgäu overland plant network via a 50 kilovolt overhead line . In 1960, the construction of a coal-fired power station block with an output of 40 megawatts with connection to the 110-kilovolt high-voltage network of the Lechwerke began; the commissioning took place on November 10, 1962. The operator of the power station was until then the Bayerische Berg-, Hütten- und Salzwerke AG .

After the end of pitch coal production and the closure of the mines in the late 1960s, the power plant experienced a radical change: On October 1, 1970, the Peissenberger Kraftwerk Gesellschaft was founded and bought the power plant. After the end of coal mining in Peißenberg, the power plant was converted to heavy oil firing in 1971/72 , after the conversion it was possible to generate electricity with an output of 16  megawatts . In addition, two more boilers were built for the district heating boiler in 1972, followed by another boiler in 1983. At its peak in 1972, 90 people worked in the power plant. The heavy fuel oil for the power plant was delivered from the Peißenberg train station via the rail connection of the former mine . In 1987 and 1990 the combined heat and power plants were put into operation (see below ). In 1988 the 16 MW turbine was taken out of service. The still existing 40 MW power plant block was converted to light heating oil in 1991 due to official requirements and finally shut down in 2000. The 140 m high chimney belonging to this power plant block was demolished in 2002. This fireplace was also called the "unloved landmark of the market town" Peißenberg.

Motorized thermal power stations

In 1987 and 1990 two block-type thermal power stations were put into operation, each with a 14-cylinder unit. Their generators generate an electrical output of around 6 megawatts each  . In addition, around 6.2 megawatts of district heating will be extracted. The systems are operated with light heating oil , which is stored in two containers with a volume of 3 million liters each. The electricity generated is fed into the 6- kilovolt medium - voltage network of the Peißenberg municipal works and the 110-kV high-voltage network of E.ON and Lechwerke. Ten employees work at the site.

In addition to the Hausham gas turbine power plant, PKG operates the Hausham gas turbine power plant and ten mobile emergency power generators.
