The Krakausche Villa , also known as the Rothsche Villa , is a listed villa in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

It is located on the west side of Salzmannstraße in the Sudenburg district , immediately north of the junction with Am Stadion at the address Salzmannstraße 28.

Architecture and history

The villa was built in 1895 by August Kalbow for Carl August Krakau, who worked as a farmer and operator of a kiln. At that time, the building site belonged to the Cracow chicory factory . The single-storey plastered villa was built on a basement . The living level is 1.25 meters above the ground level. The architectural style is based on the French baroque of the 17th and 18th centuries and gives the rather smaller house a castle-like character compared to other villas. A tower-like structure rises above the entrance on the southwest side, which is spanned by a triangular gable and designed as a portico . The entrance for servants is to the left of the portico. In addition, the villa has half the street with a distinctive one risalit upstream bay window with a 5/8 floor plan. To the left and right of the bay are almost square window openings. On the garden side, there is a courtyard in the form of an atrium . Inside there is a Berlin room .

In the 1920s the building became the home of machine manufacturer Roth.

The house had been empty since the end of the 20th century. The property formerly belonging to the house was built on with a housing estate and the street Am Stadion was laid out. Due to vandalism and fire damage, the condition today (as of 2016) is ruinous. The building is in urgent need of renovation.

In the local register of monuments , the villa is listed as a monument under registration number 094 70023 .
