Kranepuhl [ ˈkʀaːnəpuːl ] is a residential area of the city of Havelsee and belongs within the city legally to the district of Briest . It is located north of the village of Briest on state road 962 .

history

The history of Kranepuhl is closely linked to the brick industry. In the course of industrialization and the associated construction boom, countless brick factories were opened in the area of the city of Havelsee, in which clay was burned into clinker . Due to its location directly on the Havel , the area had an infrastructural advantage, as the building blocks could be transported quickly and relatively easily to the cities of Brandenburg , Potsdam and Berlin . Shiploads typically consisted of around 40,000 to 50,000 bricks. In 1840 a brick factory was opened in the area of today's Kranepuhl , which at that time still belonged to the village of Tieckow , and a port facility was constructed for it. In addition to the brickworks, a number of houses were built in Kranepuhl, primarily for brickworkers who are still inhabited today. In 1957, the Kranepuhl brickworks and the residential area moved from the municipality of Fohrde, to which the village of Tieckow had belonged since 1952, to Briest. Brick production was ultimately carried out until 1972, when the raw material clay became increasingly scarce. Then the switch to newer materials took place. In later years the bank areas belonging to Kranepuhl were built on with a few more single-family and weekend houses. The building materials plant still exists to this day.
