The Tegernsee Hospital was a hospital in the Upper Bavarian city of Tegernsee . It was closed in 1998 after the Agatharied District Hospital was founded and later demolished.

Medical care at Tegernsee in earlier times

As early as 1048 a monastery hospital was mentioned for the first time under Abbot Seyfried in the Tegernsee Monastery. In 1134 the sources mention two properties of the monastery as a hospital for travelers. In 1497 a doctor named by name in Tegernsee can be found for the first time in the Libellus Medicinalis : Doctor Johann Eichenfeder.

Establishment of a nursing home

In 1832 the country doctor Alois Reinhard set up a pharmacy in his house . As a result, he must also have built the nursing home on Bahnhofstrasse. This was financed by the Bavarian Queen Carolina 1826-1837 and opened on August 15, 1832. A first expansion, also financed by the Queen, took place from 1853 to 1862.

Due to the increasing number of inhabitants at Tegernsee, an extension of the house now known as the district hospital had to be built in 1886. In 1885, Duke Karl Theodor had set up an eye clinic in the house. The next expansion of the building took place in 1903.

After the hospital had been used as a military hospital department in the First World War , it was modernized again in 1928.

In 1964 the medical equipment was modernized, including an X-ray image intensifier and an automatic anesthesia ventilator, as well as a television system. An operative intensive care unit was set up in the early 1970s .

In 1998, a modern district hospital was opened in Agatharied to supply the entire Miesbach district . The Tegernsee hospital was subsequently closed and demolished in the years that followed. The property lay fallow until it was sold to a group of investors in March 2014. In April 2015, a development plan for three residential buildings and a hotel was approved.
