The District Deanery of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis with 106,000 Catholics is one of fifteen city and district deans in the Archdiocese of Cologne .
It is congruent with the political unity of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis . The district dean's office, based in Bergisch Gladbach, combines the former dean's offices in Altenberg, Bergisch Gladbach and Overath, which were dissolved on January 1, 2017 as part of the reorganization of the dean's offices in the Archdiocese of Cologne. The tasks of the deaneries were transferred to the district deanery.

Facilities
At the level of the district dean's office, the Katholisches Bildungswerk im Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis (sponsor: Bildungswerk der Erzdiözese Köln ) and the Caritasverband für der Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis eV are active. The Catholic Youth Agency Leverkusen, Rhein-Berg, Oberberg gGmbH is based in Bergisch Gladbach and is also active in Leverkusen and the Oberbergischer Kreis in addition to the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .
The Archdiocese of Cologne maintains the youth education center Haus Altenberg in Odenthal-Altenberg and the Kardinal-Schulte-Haus in Bergisch Gladbach-Bensberg, which is also the seat of the Thomas-More-Academy . Ecumenism
The ecumenical movement in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis has a long tradition. The Altenberg Cathedral has been a simultaneous church since the 19th century . H. at the same time parish church of a Catholic and a Protestant parish. In the present there is an interdenominational regional network. The full assembly of the ecumenical committee in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis brings together delegates from the communities in the Rheinisch-Bergisch Kreis; Members are the Catholic district dean of the Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis, the superintendent of the Evangelical Church District Cologne-Rechtsrheinisch, representatives of the District Catholic Council and the Evangelical District Synodal Board as well as the ecumenical officers of the district dean's office and the church district. There are also representatives of the free churches as well as the Protestant and Catholic pastors at Altenberg Cathedral. The annual “Altenberger Forum Church and Politics” is of supraregional importance.
