The Lodderstedt district moat is a previously unexcavated district moat near Gerbstedt in the Mansfeld-Südharz district , Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The circular moat is located northwest of Gerbstedt in the area of ​​the Lodderstedt desert . The two circular moats Belleben I and Belleben II are located about two kilometers northeast of this .

Research history

The Loderstedt district ditch was discovered in 2010 when, in the course of the excavation of the neighboring Belleben I complex, the Institute for Art History and Archeology of Europe at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg under the direction of Oliver Rück carried out extensive geomagnetic investigations into its surroundings . An excavation has not yet taken place.

The facility is approximately circular and has a diameter between 85 m and 90 m. It consists of a ditch which, according to geomagnetics, has a smaller interruption in the southwest and two larger ones in the southeast.

Dating

The complex has not yet been dated more precisely. By flint and pottery shards in field surveys were found in the vicinity of the system, but a formation in is Neolithic suggested.
