Sub-kingdom : Dikarya
Department : Ascomycota mushrooms
Subdivision : Real ascent mushrooms (Pezizomycotina)
Class : Leotiomycetes
Order : Wrinkled scabs (Rhytismatales)
Family : Circular relatives
Scientific name
Cudoniaceae
PFCannon

The circular relatives ( Cudoniaceae ) form a family of mushrooms within the order of the wrinkled scabies .

features

The circular relatives form a stalked, brightly colored fruiting body , which is usually divided into a clearly distinguishable stalk and a laterally flattened or irregular fruit layer . This is brownish to yellow. The layer between the tubes is made up of narrow, branched paraphyses curved towards the tip . The tubes are cylindrical-club-shaped, thin-walled and have an amyloid (which can be colored with iodine) or inamyloid (which cannot be colored with iodine) pores. The elongated ascospores are often septate and arranged in bundles in the tube. They are usually in a gelatinous shell, similar to many types of wrinkled scab relatives . The circular relatives have no stroma .

ecology

Circular relatives are common in the northern hemisphere, but especially in areas with a temperate climate. Only a few species occur in subtropical areas. There are no known mycorrhiza formers, so they probably live saprotrophically in the soil or on leaf litter. They may live on wood buried in the ground.

Systematics

The circular relatives were long integrated into the family of the earth tongue relatives (Geoglossaceae) in the order of the Helotiales . The Geoglossaceae were then viewed as a class of their own (Geoglossomycetes) and the newly created family Cudoniaceae was first placed in the order Helotiales by PFCannon , but later recognized as belonging to the Rhytismatales . Ge and colleagues recognized that the genus Cudonia is monophyletic , whereas the genus Spatularia is polyphyletic , which will make a division into several genera likely in the near future. An incorporation of the genus into Cudonia is also discussed.

The following genera currently (December 2015) belong to the family of circular relatives:
