Kremlin Regiment
The Kremlin Regiment ( Russian Кремлёвский полк ) is the military formation stationed in the arsenal of the Moscow Kremlin .
The regiment is subordinate to the FSO protection service and provides security and formal services . It also provides the guard of honor , which was located in front of the Lenin Mausoleum until 1993 and has stood at the tomb of the unknown soldier in the Alexander Garden near the Moscow Kremlin since 1997 .
It traces its tradition back to 1918 and the Latvian riflemen of the civil war . Since 1936 it was subordinate to the NKVD and later its successor KGB .
