The cloister was the first individual object within the park to be classified as a monument historique as early as 1890 .
history
The elements reused in the ensemble of the cloister were originally created in the 15th century for the Carmelite monastery in Trie-sur-Baïse . After severe damage to the monastery in the course of the Huguenot Wars in 1571, parts of the cloister were sold to the Saint-Sever-de-Rustan Abbey for the restoration of the cloister there. From there, in turn, numerous capitals were sold in 1889/90, some of which can be seen today in The Cloisters Museum in New York City . However, the greater part came into the possession of the city of Tarbes, which had it laid out in 1890 by the architect Boeswilhvald as a cloister in the Jardin Massey.
