Kreuzkirche (Dresden-Weißig)
The Evangelical Lutheran Kreuzkirche in the Dresden district of Weißig has been the ecclesiastical center of the village since the 13th century. Today's church building is characterized by a renovation by the Dresden architect Woldemar Kandler in 1901. Since then, the Kreuzkirche has presented itself as a hall church with a tower facade, a continuous transept and a rectangular choir. Inside, wooden galleries divide the room on three sides.
The renovation project of 1901 followed the contemporary maxims of homeland protection and monument preservation by following local, traditional structural forms in the exterior, while the additions in the interior were characterized by the modern forms and motifs of Art Nouveau . At that time older components (shaft of the west tower and outer walls of the nave) were deliberately integrated. With the renovation, the altar retable of the Dresden academy professor Alfred Diethe , the pulpit, the stalls and the painting were also created. The organ is a work by the Jehmlich company from 1901 with 21 stops on two manuals and a pedal .
Since a comprehensive renovation in 2000/01, the Art Nouveau interior can almost be fully experienced again.
