The Jehmlich Orgelbau Dresden GmbH is an organ-building operation , the 1808 Ore Cämmerswalde was founded by three brothers Gotthelf Friedrich, Johann Gotthold and Carl Gottlieb Jehmlich. The unique selling proposition as the world's oldest organ building company, which has always been family-owned, was officially confirmed in 2008.

Johann Gotthold Jehmlich moved to Dresden in 1826 and built a workshop there. In 1839 Carl Gottlieb set up a workshop in Zwickau on the occasion of an organ building contract , which was continued until 1874. Gotthold's nephew Carl Eduard Jehmlich ran the Dresden workshop from 1862 to 1889, the brothers Emil and Bruno Jehmlich from 1889 to 1938 in the third generation and Otto and Rudolf Jehmlich from 1938 to 1972 in the fourth generation.

After the nationalization in 1972 as VEB Orgelbau Dresden , Horst Jehmlich took over the management. In 1990 the company was re- privatized under his leadership . Ralf Jehmlich has been the managing director in the sixth generation since 2006. In addition to new buildings, the maintenance and restoration of historical instruments play an important role - for example, currently (2018) the restoration of the Sauer - organ of the Lutheran Church (Apolda) . The company's headquarters are on Großenhainer Straße in the Leipzig suburb of Dresden.

Works (selection)

In February 2013 there were 1165 Jehmlich organs worldwide. The size of the instruments at the time of completion is indicated in the sixth column by the number of manuals and the number of sounding registers in the seventh column. A capital “P” stands for a separate pedal. Italics indicate that the organ in question is no longer or only the prospectus has been preserved.
