The Protestant village church Pretzschendorf is a baroque central building in the Pretzschendorf district of Klingenberg in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district in Saxony . It belongs to the parish Pretzschendorf-Hartmannsdorf in the church district Freiberg of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Saxony .

History and architecture

The church is an important central building in the form of an elongated octagon and served as a model for the village church Lohmen in the district of Saxon Switzerland and today's motorway church Uhyst am Taucher in the district of Bautzen. It was built in 1732/1733 based on a design by Johann Christian Simon (1687–1760) from Dresden as a replacement for the predecessor building, which was too small and dilapidated and consecrated to St. Nicholas. Restorations were carried out in 1933 and 1966–1972. The exterior is accentuated by a mighty, square tower with an octagonal bell storey and Welscher hood on the north side, which is marked with the year 1734. A sacristy is built on the south side and stairwells in front of the building on the east and west side. Long, arched, closed window strips in the ship illuminate the interior.

The interior is very bright and generously designed as a transverse church , in accordance with the Protestant requirements for a church room with a central pulpit altar and the organ above, as well as with stalls grouped around this center. The room is characterized by the three-storey built-in galleries on the east, north and west walls. On the south side, above the altar, there is the organ gallery, with two confessionals underneath . Opposite the altar, on the north side, there are two patron saints' boxes in the middle of the first gallery, which were created for the gentlemen from Ober- and Niederpretzschendorf.

Furnishing

The main piece of equipment is a portico - pulpit altar from 1737. The sandstone baptism with a wooden lid is dated 1747. A larger than life, late Gothic crucifix dates from the end of the 15th century. A baroque epitaph reminds of Hanns Georg von Kannewurff († 1706). On both sides of the altar there are two colored glass windows based on a design by Ludwig Otto from Dresden, which are dated 1915 and depict the birth and resurrection of Christ. A very richly ornamented goblet dates from around 1400.

The organ is a work by Jehmlich from 1906 with 29 stops on two manuals and a pedal in a baroque case by Albert Prockhardt from 1735.
