Building description

Floor plan 1899

The stately hall church, which was largely made of uncut boulders and brick, dates from the transition from Romanesque to Gothic and was built at various times through several renovations. The rectangular choir with a straight end from the 13th century is the oldest part of the church. Vault paintings from the 14th century can be found here. Depicted are apostles , saints and Old and New Testament scenes. The three-aisled nave was built later. The 42 meter high west tower has a roof in the form of a "bishop's cap". A fundamental renovation took place in 1892 according to a design by Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel , in which glass windows were also used.

Since 1998 the church has been fundamentally renovated in several stages with the support of a development association.

The furnishings include a massive Romanesque font from the 13th century, carved from a boulder . Six human figures carry the baptismal vessel decorated with scales. Also to be mentioned is the sacrament house with a tower decorated with tracery and crabs from the end of the 14th century. Another sacrament house from the same period is only preserved in the lower part, which is also decorated with tracery. In the church there are wooden sculptures from the 15th and 16th centuries, as well as an organ from the Jehmlich Orgelbau company from Dresden from 1976 with 16 stops on two manuals and pedal . The renaissance style pulpit dates from 1619. It is decorated with carvings and inlays. The carvings show the crucifixion and the four evangelists. There are five bells in the tower.
