The Concordia Church, consecrated in 1661, is one of the few angular churches in Germany and the only one whose original structural condition has been preserved.

The two naves of the church form a right angle . The princely master builder Johann Moritz Heinrich Richter from Weimar was responsible for the planning.

The interior of the low tower is designed as a chancel and is separated from the identical naves by round arches . The parish used the church separately by gender: the southern hall was designated as a women's church , the western one as a men's church , the women were allowed to sit on the women's pews , while the men had access to the two-storey galleries in their area, which were later furnished with chairs.

The church was not a sovereign foundation, but was financed by voluntary donations from the congregation members of 4,174 guilders at that time. Before that, there was a violent dispute over the rights of use to the second Protestant church in Ruhla, the Trinity Church. This is located in the area that belonged to the Gothic district of Ruhlas. With the construction of the St. Concordia Church, the Eisenach - Weimar district also had its own house of worship.

The name Concordia (Latin for "unity") should promote the unity of the districts of Ruhla.

With the Nikolaikirche in Elsfleth, built in 1504, and a church in Freudenstadt, there are other such places of worship in Germany, but the Ruhla church is the only one in its original state.

The equipment of the church is the Jehmlich - organ and the baptismal font , a donation of Ruhlaer cutlery guild. The south wing received two-story galleries in 1708. According to the church chronicle, the so-called prince's estate was located at the inner corner of the two colliding ships, opposite the pulpit . It is not known why it was removed.

Pastor

The first pastor of the Church of St. Concordia was Gabrielreiber, he was born in Bad Langensalza in 1630 . Today's pastor is Gerhard Reuther.
