Johann Gottlieb Wall

Johann Gottlieb Mauer (false bricklayer ) (* before 1745; † before 1808) was a German organ builder who worked in Saxony in the 18th century .

Life

His marriage to Mariana Elisabeth, the eldest daughter of the organ builder Christian Immanuel Schweinfleisch (1720–1771), a nephew of Tobias Heinrich Gottfried Trost , in 1764 is taken as an indication that he learned organ building from pork. The two were born Johann Christian Immanuel (* 1765), Carl August (* 1766), Carolina Elisabeth (* 1768) and Christiana Friderica (* 1773).

After his successful work on the Altenburg organ, Mauer was appointed "court organ builder" on December 20, 1768. The lengthening of the dis-pipes indicates that he retuned the organ, which was tuned to the mid-tone , at the same level. Since he no longer fulfilled the condition of living in Altenburg in 1771, his title was revoked on December 16, 1771. Since 1771 he was referred to as the Leipzig "University Organ Builder". Between 1780 and 1801, Mauer's whereabouts are uncertain. A stay in Russia is assumed. In 1801 it can be traced back to a repair in skirts . The son Johann Christian was born there in 1803; the mother Johanna Regine Naundorfin then sued for her maintenance.

In addition to church organs, Mauer also built small organs and pianos.
