history

The Heitsch farm in the Breesen district

In a document of King Conrad III. from 1143 an Erkenbertus de Tecuiz is called. Like Starkenberg, Tegkwitz was a manor of the manor of the castle- counts from the Pleißenland family "Erkenbertinger", which represented a water castle. In 1088 a witness was mentioned in a Naumburg document. Then from 1143–1171 the Reichsministeriale Erkenbert von Tegkwitz became known, who contributed to the development of the Ore Mountains . In 1222 a branch of the family referred to themselves as the Burgraves of Starkenberg .

Tegkwitz belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which from the 16th century was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. In 1834 the manor Tegkwitz went to a local pastor, who demolished almost the entire property and built successor buildings. After the administrative reform in the duchy, Tegkwitz belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 it came to the district of Altenburg .

The municipality of Tegkwitz was created on July 1, 1950 with the incorporation of Breesen and Kreutzen (with the district of Misselwitz). During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus, the community Tegkwitz came with the district Altenburg to the district of Leipzig , which since 1990 belonged to the district Altenburg Thuringia and opened in 1994 Altenburger in the district of the country.

In 1992 the municipality of Tegkwitz joined the Altenburger Land administrative association. The merger agreement for the integration of Tegkwitz into Starkenberg was signed on February 26, 2008 together with Naundorf in the Altenburger Land district office , so that the merger was implemented on December 1, 2008. The last honorary mayor was Hans-Georg Böhme (volunteer fire brigade). The municipal office was retained and today serves as a meeting place for the district council and the seat of the district mayor.
