history

Former Kostitz station, reception building

A prehistoric sacrifice and burial site is said to have existed in Kostitz, but this is not proven by archaeological finds. On September 24, 1182, the dead end village was first mentioned in a document as "Chozziz" in the tithe register of the Bosau monastery . Like Starkenberg, this district is a German settlement, in which 394 people now live. The agricultural district owes its development to the loess soil of the Altenburger-Zeitzer hill country . The Kostitz manor was built in the 16th and 17th Century after the relocation of the knight's seat from Starkenberg. The mansion was built in the 18th century.

Kostitz belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies from the 16th century due to several divisions in the course of its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, Kostitz belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). From 1879 the Altenburg District Court and since 1906 the Meuselwitz District Court were legally responsible for the place. From 1918 Kostitz belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 the village became part of the Altenburg district . In the course of the expropriation through the land reform , the castle building and large parts of the farm buildings were demolished in 1945. The municipal administration was housed in the tenant building until 2009. There is a parking lot in the area of the castle.

On July 1, 1950, Kostitz was incorporated into Starkenberg. During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus Kostitz came as a district of high mountain with the district Altenburg at the Leipzig district , since 1990 as a county belonged to Altenburg Thuringia and opened in 1994 Altenburger in the district of the country.

traffic

Between 1887 and 1971 the Meuselwitz – Ronneburg railway ran through the district. The "Kostitz" stop was renamed "Starkenberg" in 1955. The station building is now a residential building with a restaurant.
