history
The village was first mentioned in a document in 1336. The place was listed as "Behlen" in the records of the Altenburg Office . It was probably founded by the Knights von Starkenberg, as Pöhla was originally under their jurisdiction. With the Wettin office of Altenburg, Pöhla was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies from the 16th century due to several inheritance divisions : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, it belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). From 1879 the Altenburg District Court and since 1906 the Meuselwitz District Court were legally responsible for the place.
From 1918 Pöhla belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was incorporated into the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 the place was assigned to the district of Altenburg . On July 1, 1950, it was incorporated into Posa , with which Pöhla was incorporated into the Altenburg district in the Leipzig district in 1952 . On January 1, 1967 the reclassification to Starkenberg took place. In 2012 there were 74 people living in the district. In the middle of the village there is a rustic village oak. She is over 130 years old.
