history

In the course of the establishment of the Wildflecken military training area , Dalherda in the Rhön was almost completely relocated to Fulda, Haimbach , Trätzhof and Fulda-Neuenberg and other parts of Germany in 1938 .

Several Protestant families (approx. 150 people) began to build a new existence , especially in Neuenberg and Haimbach . After the Second World War , the "Dammersfelder Hof" inn was used for Protestant worship .

The Kreuzkirche was built in the years 1961–1964 and finally consecrated on December 19, 1965 (4th Advent). In the 1970s, the Kreuzkirche received its bell as a gift from the evangelical community of Bad Salzschlirf .

Despite its own church, the congregation was by no means independent, but until 1981 belonged to Parish II of the Christ Church . From May 1978 the Kreuzkirche was supplied by the parish priest of the Reconciliation Church , but it remained as a branch church in the parish of the Christ Church. In 1981 the congregation got its independence, i.e. its own church council . In 1983 half a parish office was created. The parish thus had its own pastor, even if only with half a service mandate.

The pastor's position was expanded to a full position in the winter of 1998 due to the large influx of Americans and the departure of the Americans from the US barracks in Haimbacher Strasse. As a result, there is now a weekly worship service. In 1999 a rectory right next to the church was completed.

On the former helicopter base (Sickels Army Airfield) in Sickels , after the withdrawal of the US Army, a new district called Fulda-Galerie was built not far from the Kreuzkirche in 2000 . a. also to Ev. Kreuzkirche counts.

In 2012 an extension was added because the church had become too small for the large increase in the number of parishioners. The foundation stone for the 200 square meter extension was laid on June 22, 2012. In August 2013, the extension was consecrated. The traditional cross has been removed since the last renovation and replaced by a picture of several crosses.
