The H. Krieghoff GmbH is a weapons manufacturer from Ulm . It is family owned. The company is known in Europe primarily for its hunting weapons , in the USA and England again for its sporting weapons .

Company history

Ludwig Krieghoff founded the gunmaking company Sempert & Krieghoff in Suhl in 1886 together with a partner . During the First World War , the company produced military weapons, now only under the name Krieghoff, as the co-founder Sempert had emigrated to America. Krieghoff's son Heinrich had been manufacturing weapons in his own factory in Suhl since 1916, which took over his father's business in 1919. After the war, Krieghoff received a major order from the Netherlands. In contrast to many other medium-sized weapons manufacturers, this enabled the company to survive this economically difficult period. At that time, hunting weapons were primarily manufactured again.

After the National Socialist seizure of power in 1933 and during the Second World War , Krieghoff again produced weapons for the military. In Kufstein , work began on building a branch in 1940. First the machine works Kinz was leased and later new plants for the production of MG 15 and MG 131 were set up, which were continued by the Tiroler Maschinenbau und Holzindustriegesellschaft mbH in Voere after the end of the war . From 1934 to 1945 , Krieghoff produced around 13,850 P 08 pistols in Suhl . The workforce tripled during the war from 2,000 in 1940 to 6,000 in 1944, including a large number of slave labor .

In 1945, under the Soviet military government ( SMAD ), the Krieghoff factories were dismantled and transported to the Soviet Union. The buildings were blown up.

The Krieghoff family moved to Ulm towards the end of the war. From 1950 - first in Heidenheim, later in Ulm - the production of hunting rifles was resumed. The company is known for classic long guns with a tilt lock , especially rifle shotguns and triplets . As a successful medium-sized company, the company had modern production facilities for hunting and sporting weapons in the 1960s. After reunification , Krieghoff built a second production facility in Suhl. However, this was given up again due to economic reasons.

The current managing directors are Dieter Krieghoff and Phil Krieghoff. Phil Krieghoff is the fifth generation to work in the family business.
