Krikor Torosyan
Krikor Torosyan (Gigo) ( Armenian Գրիգոր Թորոսեան (Կիկօ) ; * 1884 in Agn or Eğin , † 1915 in Ankara ) was an Armenian satirist, caricaturist, writer, journalist and publisher. He founded the satirical magazine called Gigo , which became very popular among Armenians in Istanbul . He was a victim of the Armenian genocide .
Life
At an early age he moved to the then Ottoman capital Istanbul , where he received his school education. After graduating from high school, he started writing for the local Armenian magazine, Lila . Although Torosyan later became best known for his satirical writings, his initial style had a more serious tone. At the suggestion of the Armenian writers Kasim and Der-Hagopyan, Torosyan began writing satirical stories in the Manzume newspaper, where he later became editor-in-chief. After the Young Turkish Revolution of 1908, he founded the weekly magazine Gigo , which gave him the stage name Gigo . The magazine published various cartoons drawn by Torosyan.

At the beginning of the Armenian genocide, Krikor Torosyan was arrested along with numerous other Armenian intellectuals and personalities on “Red Sunday” , April 24, 1915, and deported to Ayaş near Ankara .
During his detention in Ayas, Torosyan continued to draw cartoons that he intended to publish after his release. However, at the age of 31, he was taken from prison to Ankara along with the other prisoners, where they were killed. His body was never found.
