Nativity Path

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nativity is a summary of various nativity scenes on a walk through uniform opening times composite. The custom of setting up nativity scenes at Christmas time is particularly widespread in southern Germany. Figurine nativity scenes have been known since the baroque period and are mostly set up in Catholic churches. The biblical event is often "translated" into the viewer's surroundings by depicting the stable, clothing, animals, tools and other details from one's own tradition instead of depicting a Judean landscape as true to the original as possible. As a result, old local nativity scenes are not only of purely artistic value, but also of significance for the cultural history of the region.

In some cities, a crib path is offered as a tourist attraction during Advent and Christmas, but it can also be understood as a pilgrimage route . The various nativity scenes set up in churches, on squares or in the windows of private apartments can be visited one after the other on such a path marked on leaflets, so that a wealth of different possibilities of building the nativity scene and the arrangement of figures can be admired. This also makes it possible to meditate different interpretations of biblical events. Crib paths often show cribs from other countries.
