Kristian Köchy

Kristian Köchy (born April 4, 1961 in Wolfenbüttel ) is a professor of theoretical philosophy at the University of Kassel and an expert in bioethics .

Kristian Köchy studied biology at the Technical University of Braunschweig from 1981 to 1988 and graduated with a diploma on the morphology of the nervous system of the praying mantis . He then studied philosophy there until 1992 and received his doctorate in biology in 1991, with the development and neuroethology of the defensive behavior of the praying mantis . In 1995 he graduated from the University of Dortmund with a work on holistic phenomena and analytical methods. PhD on concepts for overcoming mechanistic-reductionist thinking .

After completing his studies, Kristian Köchy worked as a research assistant at the Department of Philosophy of Technology at the University of Dortmund . In 2000 he completed his habilitation on perspectives of the organic in the subject of philosophy and since 2001 he has worked as a scientific assistant and coordinator of the interdisciplinary working group on genetic engineering reports at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences in Berlin . In the summer semester 2001 and in the summer semester 2002 Kristian Köchy represented Michael Heidelberger's chair in the theory of science of natural sciences and natural philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In the winter semester 2002/2003 he then went to the biotechnology department of the Lausitz University of Applied Sciences as a visiting professor for bioethics .

In 2003, Kristian Köchy accepted the professorship for Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Kassel and started this with a provisional representation from April 1, 2003.

The focus of his research and teaching are philosophy of science , natural philosophy , epistemology and metaphysics . His areas of specialization are biophilosophy , bioethics and the philosophy of the organic. He is a member of the interdisciplinary research group “AG Understanding Nature - Protecting Nature” at the research facility of the Evangelical Study Group in Heidelberg.
