Kristian Rand , also Kristjan Rand (born June 12, 1987 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Estonian ice dancer . He starts together with his partner Caitlin Mallory for FSC Jääkild Tallinn. In 2007, he and his then partner Grethe Grünberg won the silver medal at the Junior World Championships. Rand's younger brother Taavi is also an ice dancer and was Estonian Junior Champion in 2007 and 2008 with his partner Irina Štork .

Sporting successes

With Grethe Grünberg, Rand took fifth place at the Estonian championships in 2001 and 2002. In 2003 and 2004 they were able to dance the silver medal at national level. Since 2003 they have competed in international junior competitions. In their first appearance at the Junior World Championships in 2004, they finished 18th. In 2005 the couple won the national ice dance championships for the first time. In 2006 and 2007 they were able to repeat the success. Grünberg and Rand achieved their first podium in an international competition at the Junior Grand Prix in their hometown of Tallinn. There they took third place. They achieved their greatest successes in 2007. Grünberg and Rand won the Junior Grand Prix in Oslo and won the silver medal behind the Russian couple Bobrowa and Solovyov at the Junior World Championships in Oberstdorf . By winning the silver medal, Grünberg and Rand are the first Estonian figure skaters to win a medal at international championships. At the world championships for seniors they took 19th place and at the European championships 15th place.

After Grünberg / Rand were unable to take part in a competition during the 2007/08 season due to a foot injury by Grünberg, Grünberg ended her career in 2008 due to an injury. Rand found a new partner in the American ice dancer Caitlin Mallory , with whom he has been participating in international competitions since the 2008/09 season. The pair, who are competing for Estonia, finished 14th at the 2009 European Figure Skating Championships in Helsinki and 20th at the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships . At the 2010 European Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn , Austria , they were able to improve their results from the previous year and took 13th place. Because Mallory did not have Estonian citizenship , the couple could not participate in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver .
