Kristin Haynie (born June 17, 1983 in Mason , Michigan , United States ) is a former American professional basketball player who played for the Sacramento Monarchs , Atlanta Dream and Detroit Shock in the Women's National Basketball Association from 2005 to 2009 . She is currently the assistant coach for the women's basketball team at Eastern Michigan University .
Player career
High School (1997 to 2001)
In her youth, Haynie attended Mason High School in Mason , Michigan , where she played for the high school basketball team. In her first year, she played for the high school's top performing women's basketball team, the Varsity Team . During her time in high school, she received several awards, such as the State of Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year or Lansing State Journal Player of the Year . Haynie, who finished her senior year of high school with an average of 21.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 6.1 steals per game, also played for the school's soccer team. She has also received several awards in football.
College (2001 to 2005)
Haynie studied at Michigan State University from 2001 to 2005 and graduated with a degree in family and community services . During this time she also played for the university's NCAA women's basketball team, the Spartans . Haynie ended her freshman season, who was mostly used in the position of guard, with an average of 7.8 points and 3.7 assists per game. In addition, because of her good performance in her first season, she was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team . In her sophomore season, she was able to improve significantly compared to her first season, whereby she was named MSU's Most Improved Player . This increase is also reflected in her stats, when she averaged 10.1 points and 5 assists per game in her second season. For her achievements, she was subsequently appointed to the All-Big Ten team by the coaches of the Big Ten Conference . Her junior season was just as successful as the previous year, when she ended the season with an average of 8.9 points and 4 assists per game. In addition, she was reappointed to the All-Big Ten team and was also named the team's best playmaker.
The most successful year for Haynie was her senior season, when she with the team for the first time in the final of the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship , where she failed with the Spartans at Baylor University . WNBA (2005 to 2009)
Kristin Haynie was selected ninth in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Sacramento Monarchs . In the 2005 season , which was also her first season in the WNBA, she won her first WNBA championship with the Monarchs. She is the first player to be in the NCAA final and the WNBA final in the same year.
In the 2008 season , the Atlanta Dream joined the WNBA and in the Expansion Draft , Atlanta decided among others for Haynie, who thus played for the Atlanta Dream in the 2008 season. In the following season, the Dream did not extend their contract. On April 22, 2009, the Detroit Shock Haynie contracted but they exchanged for Crystal Kelly to the Sacramento Monarchs during the season . After the Monarchs stopped playing at the end of the season, she was signed in the Dispersal Draft by the Washington Mystics for which she was never used.
Europe (2006 to 2008)
For several years she was also active for clubs in Europe.
Coaching career
After the end of her playing career, she took the position of assistant coach at Eastern Michigan University .
