history

Kroger in Houston

Kroger was founded in 1883 by Barney Kroger as a small grocery store in Cincinnati . In 1901, Kroger became the first retailer in the United States to bake his own bread instead of buying it from other bakeries . Today Kroger still produces a lot of food itself. In the following decades, Kroger expanded strongly. In 1999, Kroger merged with Fred Meyer, Inc. The $ 13 billion acquisition was the largest in the company's history. Kroger acquired Harris Teeter in 2014 with more than 200 stores.
